Land Acknowledgement
Riot of Roses Publishing House—a Xicana-owned establishment founded to amplify the stories of historically silenced voices—acknowledges the Gabrielino Tongva & Gabrieleño Kizh, the original peoples of Sejatnga today known as the City of Whittier, southeast Los Angeles County, CA. Here and across their large unceded territory, these people have respectfully tended to the lands and waters and still do their best to give voice to these sacred elements. By making this land acknowledgment, we recognize that Indigenous peoples are the traditional stewards of the land that we now occupy, that they were living here long before South Whittier was a neighborhood, and that we support all efforts toward their self-determination, sovereignty, and thriving.
